We envision a world in which security is defined not by militarism and fear, but by human well-being, global solidarity, and a livable planet.

Security in Context’s team of international scholars is redefining commonly held conceptions of security. Our research, pedagogy, and public policy outputs are designed to empower policy makers, academic practitioners, and others seeking the right data to foster a more equitable and sustainable world. The SiC project has three primary modes of intervention: research, pedagogy, public policy/public engagement. These modes flow from the overarching goal of the SiC research initiative, which is to challenge dominant paradigms, produce alternative knowledge on (in)security-related topics, and consolidate and expand networks of individuals and institutions.

IdeaCo. strategized and developed a brand system and unique, custom digital platform designed for research and journalism. The structure allows SiC to develop an array of content from articles to podcasts, academic research to animations. The storytelling component of this project, with over 1000 individual content posts, was overlaid onto a complex content management system that allows for content to be displayed in different areas of the site, sorted and searched, and pushed to other media with ease. The platform is the center of the brand concept and functions as a key tool and mechanism to promote stories and perspectives lost in other media environments.
